Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya

Regarded as the "Intelligent Garden City," Putrajaya will play host to the inaugural event on July 26, 2009. Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya will lead athletes on a scenic course in and around the new capital city, one that sits among lush landscaping. With a one-loop lake swim, a flat bike course and a picturesque run, participants will experience many of the area's historical attractions.

Kuala Lumpur is close by, so there will be lots of attractions for both athletes and their families.

A triangular loop in Putrajaya Lake covering 1.9 km
Bike
From Putrajaya (on the banks of the lake) headed towards PCC, the swing bridge in Putrajaya including many attractive places. Total distance covered in this bike segment is 90.1km. (TO BE CONFIRMED)
Run
Four loops round the Putrajaya and finishing at the main entrance of the Putrajaya Square making up a distance of 21km.

Sultan Ahmad Shah International Eco Challenge 2009

While the event in 2008 test the endurance of the participants in running, mountain biking and canoeing, the SAS International Eco Challenge 2009 will test the running endurance of the participants over the jungle trails of both Tasik Bera and Pulau Tioman.

The race route is carefully chosen to take the participants off the beaten track in this famous lake and island of Pahang. It promises grueling challenges, difficult terrains with breathtaking sights and scenery which are not usually experience by the ordinary visitors to these places.

Sultan Ahmad Shah International Eco Challenge 2009 (SAS) is basically a half marathon race with the participants having to run the eco jungle trails of Tasik Bera and Pulau Tioman. The challenge is divided into the following categories:-

International Category (Men/Women)
Participants must participate in both legs of the event ie the 1st leg – Tasik Bera and the 2nd leg Pulau Tioman. The participant with the best combined score from both these legs will be declared the overall champion of SAS Eco Challenge 2009. The Iron Lady award of SAS Eco Challenge 2009 will be awarded to the highest score lady participant of the two legs.

Local Category (Men/Women)
Participants may also sign up for only 1 leg of the eco challenge ie they may sign up to run either the Tasik Bera or Pulau Tioman Leg of the Eco Challenge. The winner of each leg will be declared the “Juara Tasik Bera” or “Juara Pulau Tioman” respectively.

For Tasik Bera, the race route is the same for both the Men and Woman category while at Pulau Tioman a slightly different race route is planned. The race routes will take participants through kampong roads, secondary roads and off to the beaten jungle track and trails.

Starwalk Ipoh 2009

IPOH: Registration for Ipoh Starwalk 2009 opens today.

One of Perak’s most exciting sporting events, the walk will be flagged off from Stadium Indera Mulia at 7am on June 21.

The event is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council with the co-operation of the Perak Government, Perak Amateur Athletics Association and Perak Education Department in conjunction with the city’s 21st anniversary.

There will be two categories – non-competition and competition. The categories will be over 10km each.

The competition category is divided into nine groups - Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Junior Veteran (40 years and above but less than 50), Men’s Senior Veteran (50 and above but less than 60), Men’s Diamond Veteran (60 and above), Women’s Veteran (35 and above but less than 50), Women’s Senior Veteran (50 and above), Boys and Girls (13 and above but less than 20 for both).

Entry fee for non-competition walkers is RM8 per person while competition walkers will be charged RM12 each.

As in previous years, there will be lots of exciting prizes for lucky participants who complete the walk within the prescribed time limit. Those in the competition category and who complete the walk within the time limit will also get a participation certificate.

Registration can be made at The Star’s office at No 39, Jalan Hussein, Ipoh, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays, except public holidays. The entry form can be downloaded at www.thestar.com.my/starwalk. Entries close on May 15. For details, call 05-2530402.

XTerra Malaysia

Offer 2 type of categories - Pro and Non-pro. For Non-pro there 2 categories - Individual and Relay. And each category need to complete 1.5km swimming, 30km bike and 10km running.

The race will kick off with a 1.5km swim in the clear blue waters of the South China Sea with the temperature being typically warm around 32 degrees Celsius, and making wetsuits a bad option for participants.

The 30km bike course in the green jungle and double track heading away from the beach can best be described as a roller coaster ride and the descents are surely to be a challenging test for many mountain bikers. It would not be very technical but at the same time, it would not be a breeze either.

The 10km trail run, will take participants back to the beach and then heading off into the thick jungle, running past the local zoo before racing the hilly jungle trails and for prosperity reasons, a short climb in the woods heading back to the finishing chute to the finish line.

A total of RM100,000 cash prizes will be given out to the top 3 winners of their respective categories and all finishers will be awarded a Finishing Medal, Certificate of Achievement and a finisher’s t-shirt
